Location audio presents its own unique set of challenges with every location, because Mother Nature doesn’t know the meaning of “quiet on the set”. Combating intermittent rain and the awkwardness of filming inside a vehicle, many creative techniques were quickly improvised and instituted to mitigate unwanted background noise in the production audio.
The music for this project was conceived to work in tandem with the sound design to blend them into a cohesive soundscape. The directors wanted the pulsing music theme to reflect the main character’s increased heartbeat, a technique as effective and time-honored as Shakespeare’s use of Iambic pentameter in sonnets.
Having the sound designer and mixer in the pre-production process allowed the directors to use sound to add more depth to the story. For example, the addition of victim screams during the climax was added during the sound design process and further manipulated in the mix. The mixing of all these audio elements together is the final process for the film’s audio and allows the director to realize their final vision.
When all broadcast elements are locked an experienced mixer can enhance the production using a wide range of techniques. From noise reduction to level balance our mixes can meet all current industry broadcast standards.
